A highly energized Elon Musk reveled during an Inauguration Day rally at Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C., telling the audience of President Donald Trump supporters, "Thanks to you the future of civilization is assured."
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and the owner of X, approached the lectern by pumping his arms in excitement and shouting, "Yes! This what victory feels like!"
"This was no ordinary victory," Musk said in a speech that aired live on Newsmax. "This was a fork in the road of human civilization. You know, there are elections that come and go, some elections are, you know, important. Some are not. But this one, this one really mattered.
"And I just want to say thank you for making it happen. Thank you. Thank you. My heart goes out to you. It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured."
Musk, who will be leading Trump's new Department of Government Efficiency to streamline federal government spending and reduce the mass number of regulations, pointed to his excitement about the exploration of Mars. SpaceX is heavily invested in NASA's Artemis mission, with its Starship rocket expected to play a central role in human exploration on the Moon and future missions to Mars.
"Can you imagine how awesome it will be to have American astronauts plant the flag on another planet for the first time?" said Musk, who gestured with his fists pounding toward the floor and saying, "Bam. Bam."
"How inspiring would that be?" he said. "There's always in life. You know, there's this problem. Solve that problem, solve that problem. But, you know, there need to be things that inspire you. There need to be things that make you glad to wake up in the morning and say, I'm looking forward to the future.
"And let me tell you, I'm going to work my a** off for you guys. I really will. I'm super fired up for the future. It's going to be very exciting. As the president said, we're going to have a golden age. It's going to be fantastic. And one of the fundamental things that one of the most American values that that I love is optimism. And this feeling we're going to make the future good. We're going to make it good. So, man, I can't wait. This is going to be fantastic."
