Jeffrey Lord: Trump to Get More 'Adversarial' by Hiring Emmet Flood

(Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now")

Conservative political strategist Jeffrey Lord told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that Emmet Flood replacing the retiring Ty Cobb on President Donald Trump's personal legal team signaled a more "adversarial" approach in dealing with Russia special counsel Robert Mueller.

"To be more adversarial is exactly the purpose of this switch," Lord, who served in the Reagan White House, told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman.

"If you're going to fight, you're going to have to fight — and it would take a long time and a delay."

Noting that Democrats are signaling impeachment should they win back the House this fall, Lord said: "Impeachment is not a legal instrument, but a political instrument.

"Republicans, it should be said, made a mistake going after Bill Clinton in 1998 — and they paid for it in the fall elections.

"They didn't do very well when they should have.

"I would remind my Democratic friends that they would need to be very careful here," Lord told Bachman, "because I don't think the public is anywhere close to being sold on this."
