Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., told Newsmax TV on Tuesday while he cannot fully support remote voting for members of Congress without being sure that their votes will be counted accurately as the House prepares to vote on another coronavirus relief bill.
“It’s my intention to be in Washington to vote on that package on Thursday,” he told “The National Report” Tuesday morning, adding that “there was talk also that [House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.] was looking at a vote on Thursday to change the rules as it relates to distance voting.”
Steube said he’s “at the point” where he would be “happy to look at language as to how they would do that. At the top, [I] was kind of like, if you couldn’t make it you would tell somebody in leadership how you would vote. I think that’s problematic, to ensure that the votes are being counted accurately.”
The congressman added that members of the House and Senate “have a card like a driver’s license or a business card, an electronic card that goes into a voting machine to vote for you, and only you can do that, and only you have that card. So, I think it’s problematic if we’re going to have other ways that we’re going to do it other than utilizing that device, but I’m open to reading the proposals that they’ll have.”
