Grover Norquist: Tax Reform Could Force States to Change Their Tax Structure

(Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now")

The Republican Party's tax bill that passed Wednesday will have lasting benefits for the country, tax expert Grover Norquist told Newsmax TV.

Norquist, the founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform, appeared on "Newsmax Now" and spoke with former White House press secretary Sean Spicer and host Bill Tucker about the tax bill and what is next for America.

"You see the notice that AT&T put out [Wednesday]: $1,000 bonus to 200,000 workers. So much for the Democrat argument that if companies have more money they eat it, or whatever they think they'd do with it," Norquist said.

Regarding states with high state and local taxes, some of which were opposed to the tax bill because it takes away some of the deductions for these expenses, Norquist said the legislation could force some states to change for the better.

"You only fix those [problems regarding high state and local taxes] with Republican governors and Republican legislatures, and you don't get those if the cost of government is hidden," Norquist said. "The Trump administration, the Republican Party, did New Jersey a big favor. Ten years from now, 20 years from now, New Jersey may not be Florida or Texas, but it won't be the New Jersey of old, and that's good for your property values, and that's good for jobs."
