Rep. Guy Reschenthaler to Newsmax TV: Pa. Certifying Tainted Results 'Reckless'

By    |   Tuesday, 24 November 2020 08:07 PM EST

Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar's certification of the state's election results constitutes a "reckless" rush to judgment that started even before the election began, Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., said Tuesday night on Newsmax TV.

"I don't think we should be surprised that Secretary Boockvar – the person who said Pennsylvania was going to go to Joe Biden before voting even started – I don't think anybody should be surprised that she certified the election, but it's somewhat reckless, because the Trump campaign still has a pending lawsuit," Reschenthaler told Tuesday's "Stinchfield."

"As a lawyer, there is grounds for this lawsuit."

There is an "equal protection" constitutional case being made by the Trump campaign that has merit, Reschenthaler told host Grant Stinchfield. "You had some counties that were controlled by Democrats, Democrat-concentrated areas, that were allowing voters to cure ballots," he continued, focusing on the process of informing a mail-in voter there were errors or mistakes on their ballot. "And in the Republican areas, you were not allowed to cure ballots."

Reschenthaler also reiterated the Trump campaign's contention that Pennsylvania state courts "unilaterally" changed election law, though the state legislature has the legal authority to decide.

"A clear violation of the U.S. Constitution," Reschenthaler insisted. "So, with these pending legal cases, these legal challenges, it may have been premature" to certify a Biden victory.
