A report that a White House official called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "chicken----" could harm Democrats in the midterm elections, Democratic strategist and Newsmax contributor Hank Sheinkopf says.

"In marginal states where there are evangelical Christians who are supportive of the state of Israel, that kind of behavior will only force a turnout," Sheinkopf, president of Sheinkopf Communications, said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"What the guys need to do in Washington who are Democrats to get it through their thick heads is they do not want to have turnouts in marginal districts or in states where the numbers are close," Sheinkopf said.

"They don't want that because if they do, they will likely lose."

The Atlantic magazine quoted an unnamed White House official saying Netanyahu is a "chickensh----" more concerned with his political standing in Israel than he is trying to negotiate peace.

The White House has distanced itself from the unattributed crack.
