Dem Strategist Sheinkopf: Both Parties Lack Political Center

Tuesday, 22 July 2014 03:41 PM EDT

Both Republicans and Democrats face serious challenges in choosing the right candidate to run for president in 2016 because neither party has a center ground, says Democratic political consultant and Newsmax contributor Hank Sheinkopf.

"There is no center anymore, and what Bill Clinton created to the benefit of this country was a center,'' Sheinkopf said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"One can complain about him — like him, don't like him — but politically he did an extraordinarily important thing for this country," Sheinkopf said.

"He created a place where people of different points of view could meet. That no longer exists, and that is the problem, and that is the problem Hillary Clinton faces and that's the problem the Republicans face.''

Sheinkopf says there is no clear GOP frontrunner yet.

"We don't know who's going to show up in the Republican general election yet, we don't know if there's a real primary,'' he said.

On the Democratic side, Sen. Elizabeth Warren could be "a serious problem'' for Hillary Clinton because she represents the Democratic Party in the same way the conservatives represent the GOP, said Sheinkopf, who heads Sheinkopf Communications Ltd.

Sheinkopf said Secretary of State John Kerry's comment about Israel's military strike in Gaza being "a hell of a pinpoint operation,'' further reveals the Obama administration's misguided handling of the Middle East.

"When you have a weak man in the White House who doesn't understand international politics, you have a disaster. This is a disaster,'' Sheinkopf said.

"The real issue here and what the Europeans want and what the enemies of Israel want is they don't want peace. What they want is dead Jews. They want the Israelis gone, but here's the problem: they're not leaving. That's the real issue.''
