Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., says it’s important to get the hand recount in Georgia right ahead of a Jan. 5 Senate runoff.
Georgia officials expect to release a report Thursday on a hand tally of about 5 million votes in the 2020 presidential race. Many news outlets have projected a win for Joe Biden.
President Donald Trump, citing voter fraud and ballot-counting machine irregularities, refuses to concede. Newsmax will not announce a winner until enough states certify votes.
“The bottom-line issue, the undercurrent of this whole election process has been absolute chaos, unnecessarily so,” Hice said Thursday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “American Agenda.”
“The chances of widespread fraud in the state of Georgia is pretty undeniable and we’ve got to get to the bottom of it. We have an election with the Senate coming up on Jan. 5 and for that reason we must get this one right and to do that there’s a lot of issues that we’ve got to deal with.”
Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue head to a Jan. 5 runoff set to determine which party controls the Senate in 2021.
Perdue, who was ahead of his Democratic challenger, Jon Ossoff, did not meet the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff election. Loeffler will face Raphael Warnock.
