Niger Innis Considering Congressional Run

By    |   Monday, 18 November 2013 05:47 PM EST

Niger Innis, the national spokesman for Congress of Racial Equality and chief strategist for TheTeaParty.net, says he is close to declaring his candidacy for Congress.

"My attorney says that until it is official, that until I file paperwork, I cannot say that I am a candidate for Congress," Innis told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But I can say that I've been giving very serious, prayerful consideration."

Story continues below video.

Innis is eyeing the fourth Congressional district in Nevada, which comprises North Las Vegas and middle Nevada and is now represented by Democrat Steven Horsford.

"Horsford is not much more than [a President Barack] Obama clone and a [Senate Majority Leader]Harry Reid rubber stamp and the status quo is just not working for our citizens … It's time for a change," he said.

Innis, whose father Roy Innis is former National Chairman of Congress of CORE, says the ongoing controversies following the botched rollout of the Affordable Care Act will play a role in his campaign.

"The initial arrogance of the administration and of the president … basically saying, well, you people are too stupid and these healthcare plans that you had were just not sufficient enough, I, as the master of the universe, know better than you do what kind of healthcare you need. That … has backfired so badly," he said.

"The real disaster of the website is that young people are more technology inclined than you and I are and they go to a site and that thing is not working. They're not going back to that site."

Innis said a "huge pendulum swing" is taking place across the country.

"[The] government is just getting too large, it's getting too much into our business, into our own lives," he said.
