Rep. Issa to Newsmax TV: Democrats' COVID Relief Bill Delays Economic Recovery

By    |   Thursday, 25 February 2021 04:19 PM EST

The COVID-19 relief package Democrats plan to pass without any Republican backing will delay the country's economic recovery, according to Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., on Newsmax TV.

Democrats were expected to pass President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion stimulus package on Friday. The bill included sending $1,400 to many Americans.

"Is it about keeping people at home and delaying the recovery even further? It appears to be, and that's what bothers me the most," Issa told hosts Bob Sellers and Heather Childers on Thursday's "American Agenda."

"Teachers aren't going back to work. People who want to go back to work, all they want is a vaccine and an opportunity to get back to work. And they're being denied that."

In saying the Democrats' plan "never gets anywhere close to half [the money going to things] actually related to this pandemic," Issa insisted sending more financial aid to Americans was a bad idea.

"As we start coming out of a pandemic, it's no the time for Congress to say, 'Oh, now we gotta send money out there to stimulate the economy,'" he said. "At a time we now have not one, not two, but now three separate vaccines available, and millions of doses going out basically every week, they're going to say that they need the largest bailout in American history, for what purpose?

"There's almost a trillion dollars they haven't yet spent from the last one."

Issa said lessons should have been learned from the first two COVID-19 relief packages last year.

"We know that when we were giving $600 of excess unemployment to people, it kept them from wanting to go back to work, even when they were offered jobs," Issa said. "And so rather than switching that to aid to helping people get back to work, the Democrats are doubling down and insisting that they continue to pay people not to work."
