John Fund on Emails: 'Old Hillary's' Still Not Into 'Straight Talk'

By    |   Wednesday, 11 March 2015 11:02 AM EDT

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s contention Tuesday that she used a private email for her official business to avoid carrying more than one electronic device flies in the face of comments she made in February, Newsmax contributor and National Review columnist John Fund said during an appearance Wednesday on "America’s Forum."

"Last month, Hillary Clinton was in Silicon Valley proudly saying that she owns and uses an iPad, a mini iPad, an iPhone and a BlackBerry and carries them," Fund told Newsmax TV. "That's four devices, so what's changed?

"A few years ago, she had one and now she's the proud possessor of four? This excuse is a little hard to take."

Tuesday’s news conference to address the scandal was classic Clinton, Fund said.

"You know you're not going to get the straight talk, you know you're not going to get an apology. Old Hillary's learn[ed] no new tricks."

Unless the Select Committee on Benghazi uncovers something dramatic, Fund predicts voters in 2016 won’t be heavily influenced by the controversy. Clinton is the presumed Democratic Party nominee.

The news media may feel differently.

"The media now realizes we've seen this Clinton show from the '90s before," he said. "It's the same old story. You play hide and seek, constantly intimidate and attack reporters who question them at any stage, and obfuscate, cover up the facts, and try to move on.

"Reporters recognize candidates have their own self-interest, but the Clintons are like a giant steamroller every time you try to get information from them, and it's exhausting."

Fund also discussed drones on the southern border, a measure that has been criticized as the costs outweighing the benefits. The problem, according to Fund, is that the drones' targets are too broad.

"The drones basically see too much, see too many people crossing the border and you have too much information," he said. "The drones are fine, but they can't solve the whole problem.

"We need to have some kind of a system by which you can regulate the people ... so you're not trying to catch everyone, including people who want to come here as dishwashers and construction workers. You're trying to catch terrorists and bad guys."
