John Zogby: Trump Getting Support From the 'Forgotten Man'

By    |   Monday, 19 September 2016 07:22 PM EDT

Donald Trump is getting support from the "forgotten man," a voting bloc that in the past has supported Presidents Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, and even Bill Clinton, pollster John Zogby told Newsmax TV Monday.

"As I listen to him talking, I thought ironically enough of presidents going back to FDR and the modern media age and I'm going back to radio as well," Zogby told host J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"They all in some way, shape, or form represented the forgotten man. You know Harry Truman did, 'Ike' was a war hero, even JFK. PT-109 was a leveling kind of experience. I think that's a differentiation now between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is that it doesn't seem as if she's had that leveling experience probably too long in the public sector and a sense that people are a mass as opposed to individuals.

"Ironically enough, her husband was able to bond with that forgotten man, but she doesn't seem to be able to connect."

Zogby also pointed out that African-American voters are turning to Trump as the campaign continues.

"It is a poll of people who have voted in the past not necessarily of new voters but if those numbers hold, that 20 percent is more than double of what Republicans have been scoring among African Americans," Zogby said.

"It also means that Trump is doing better among younger African-Americans. … That 20 percent can loom very large even if they ultimately don't vote for Trump and even stay home, but that is certainly a statement about Hillary's lack of standing among younger African-Americans."
