Katrina Pierson, campaign adviser to President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, welcomes reports that former National Security Adviser Susan Rice is a front-runner Joe Biden's running mate because it will bring the Obama administration’s misdeeds into view.
Pierson told Newsmax TV on Monday that putting Rice on the ticket would give the Trump campaign an opportunity to highlight aspects of the investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign, which started out as a counterintelligence probe under the FBI while Barack Obama was president.
“I would love to have her at the bottom of the ticket, because we do need to talk about all of the things that occurred while Barack Obama and Joe Biden were in office,” she said on "Greg Kelly Reports."
“Because they have wasted years of Americans’ time and millions of tax dollars in going after the political opposition, in our case the Trump campaign. And they need to answer for that. So, I would love to have her out there on the campaign trail.”
During the interview, host Greg Kelly referred to an email Rice sent to herself regarding a Jan. 5, 2017, meeting that followed an intelligence briefing about Russian interference in the 2016 election. The attendees included Rice, Obama, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Acting Attorney General Sally Yates and Biden.
The email discussed how Comey was concerned about sharing classified information with the Trump team because of incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn’s frequent conversations with the Russian ambassador. However, Comey had no knowledge of Flynn sharing classified information with the envoy.
Critics have focused on what they called the “unusual” practice of Rice sending herself an email two weeks after the meeting to memorialize the conversation, especially including a note that Obama told Comey to continue “by the book.” They add that including the direction by Obama implied Comey was employing unlawful or at least unethical tactics.
