Rep. Fred Keller, R-Pa., told Newsmax that President Joe Biden's United Nations speech should have been more concerned about the geo-political climate change, including European nations being dependent on Russian energy, and increasing U.S. energy production to help other countries meet their challenges.
"I heard what [Biden} was saying at the United Nations," Keller said during "American Agenda" Wednesday. "It seems like you should be concerned about the geopolitical climate change that we're seeing, and if we want to really help other nations, how about American energy so that our allies and nations around the globe aren't relying on Russia?"
Biden spent most of his speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York slamming Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, but shifted to climate change, outlining the steps the U.S. has taken in the last year, including the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act and its major climate change initiatives.
"From the day I came to office, we've led with a bold climate agenda. We rejoined the Paris Agreement, convened major climate summits, helped deliver critical agreements on COP26. And we helped get two thirds of the world GDP on track to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius," Biden said. "And now I've signed a historic piece of legislation here in the United States that includes the biggest, most important climate commitment we have ever made in the history of our country: $369 billion toward climate change. That includes tens of billions in new investments in offshore wind and solar, doubling down on zero emission vehicles, increasing energy efficiency, supporting clean manufacturing."
He also said he is currently working with Congress to give $11 billion to international climate finance to help low-income nations achieve their climate goals and "ensure a just energy transition" to greener forms of energy.
Keller said Biden would do better to produce more American energy to make sure the citizens here are secure and seeing the burden of high energy prices reduced on American families.
"[Energy costs] affect input costs for everything that we need in our daily lives," he said. "I think if the president were serious about that he'd take a look at his policies on American energy."
Keller also said that the spending under Biden, coupled with rising interest rates, is doing little to help his own country and its future generations.
"You talk about the interest rates increasing, and then he just wants to borrow more money, and spend more money," he said. "That's certainly not going to help America help or the next generation when we're lumping this kind of debt on them."
