Ken Blackwell: No Federal Shutdown Next Week

(Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now")

By    |   Thursday, 01 February 2018 09:23 PM EST

The federal government will not shut down next week because "I don't think Chuck Schumer has fallen and bumped his head," former Trump domestic policy adviser Ken Blackwell told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"We will not see a second government shutdown," Blackwell told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker. "I don't think that Chuck Schumer has fallen and bumped his head."

Schumer, the New York Democrat, is the Senate Minority Leader who played a key role in last month's two-day shutdown.

"He lost the last round," Blackwell said.

"Here's the reality: The president has captured the middle ground on this whole debate around immigration policy.

"He can lay claim to a narrative or reasonableness — and it would be a very dangerous proposition for the Democrats to shut down the government yet again on an issue they're losing," Blackwell told Tucker.

"The president has not been stubborn. He has not been stuck in the mud.

"He has reached the middle ground," he added. "I think most Americans get it."
