State Attorney General: Obama Misled Texans on Amnesty Order

By    |   Wednesday, 25 March 2015 12:05 PM EDT

Texans "frustrated" by President Barack Obama's executive order granting amnesty to some 5 million illegal immigrants are eager for an appeals court to rule on a decision by a Texas federal judge to issue an injunction halting the president's actions, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Wednesday on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum."

"We have an amazing Hispanic population in Texas, but in this state people want the law followed," he said. "Whether you like the policy or not, the fact that he has unconstitutionally made new law is extremely frustrating to people in the state who care about the Constitution and who care about the rule of law."

The Obama administration has misled Texans and the court, Paxton continued, by first saying the order would not take effect until Feb. 18 and later acknowledging that tens of thousands of people had already been affected by it.

"The Obama administration came back into a court recently and told us and told the judge we weren't exactly upfront about this, we actually did implement it and over 100,000 people have been affected by this new executive action," he said.

"We went back into court and asked for more discovery on this so we can figure out what else the administration hasn't told us, and we're hopeful that the judge will rule shortly."

Justice Department lawyers have asked the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans to overrule the injunction, a decision the DOJ has requested be made by Thursday.

Obama's actions have resulted in an undue burden placed on Texas and other border states to spend taxpayer money "to do the job of the federal government," according to Paxton.

"We have to keep dedicating more and more resources to stopping this influx of illegals," he said. "Just look over our Texas legislature. They're basically halfway through and they're having to put hundreds of millions of dollars into border security that the federal government should be paying for."
