Kevin Sorbo to Newsmax: Scrutiny Over R.I. Shooter's Response to Post Unfair

By    |   Wednesday, 18 February 2026 12:49 PM EST

Actor Kevin Sorbo told Newsmax on Wednesday that he is being unfairly scrutinized over the response to one of his social media posts from the shooter involved in Monday's deadly attack during a high school hockey tournament in Rhode Island.

"I have no idea who this crazy guy was to begin with," Sorbo said on Newsmax's "National Report," where he responded to the reports about the shooter, a transgender person identifying as Roberta Dorgando, posting a response to one of his tweets.

Sorbo had posted a photograph of Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., the nation's first elected transgender member of Congress, referring to her as a man and using her birth name, Tim McBride, and adding "community note this if I'm wrong."

The shooter, who has been identified in media reports and by law enforcement by his male name, Robert Dorgan, responded: "Keep bashing us. But do not wonder why we Go BERSERK."

The next day, Dorgan opened fire at the hockey game, killing his ex-wife and one of his children and injuring several others before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Sorbo reposted his tweet and the comment to his page Monday night, after the shooting, commenting, "There were signs…"

Sorbo told Newsmax that he posted the McBride tweet "because I'm a firm believer in the truth."

"When I put that thing out there about McBride, I said, just tell me how I'm wrong, because the reality is she is a male, biological male. It's as simple as that," he added.

Sorbo said he was unaware of the replies until friends alerted him and said he does not think what he posted "was a catalyst to make him go do what he's doing."

"I mean, why am I being scrutinized for telling the truth when he should be the one held responsible for his actions?" said Sorbo, who has posted at least twice about Dorgan, including reposting images showing the shooter in a gym and saying, "We live in a broken world."

Sorbo also pointed to statements made by the suspect's daughter in a televised interview.

"I saw the interview with his daughter, who survived that shooting, and she said, right there, for the last 10 years, he's been transitioning, and he's suffering from mental illness. Those are the words from his own daughter," Sorbo said.

Asked whether mental illness is being overlooked, Sorbo said, "I don't think we're paying attention to it. It's out there. Like I said, why are we accepting it as normal behavior? It's not normal behavior."

He added that society is failing to address broader issues tied to violence.

"Every time something like this happens, and violence happens, we just kind of blow it off. We release these people. They do violent acts," Sorbo said. "There really should be care for them."

He added that "its absurd to me that we even have these conversations," he said.

"It’s absurd we have to have conversations about men and boys competing in women's sports," said Sorbo. "The world has got to wake up because it's crazy."

The discussion later shifted to social media and its impact on young people, as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg testifies in a civil trial concerning social media platforms.

"I was called the internet is the Wild West, and now with AI, it's only going to get more crazy and more insane," Sorbo said. "Pretty soon, John Wayne will be starring in a movie with Julia Roberts. Who knows?"
