The planned Syria withdrawal will not create any problems because there are enough U.S. military assets in the Middle East, retired Army Major Gen. Paul Vallely told Newsmax TV.
Vallely told "Newsmax Now" he is on board with President Donald Trump's plans.
"I have been comfortable with it from the beginning because really what's happening over there, we have five different parties involved: Turkey, [Syrian President Bashar al-] Assad, Iran, Russia, and the United States," Vallely said. "We do not need to keep 2,000 of our U.S. soldiers over there in harm's way.
"We have plenty of assets in the area, and we can support the Kurds.
"It's a repositioning because as I said, we have plenty of joint assets over there — air, land, special ops forces — and our biggest objective here, I think, is to protect the Kurds in northern Syria."

Vallely added the U.S. military has the ability to keep tabs and launch missions all day every day, regardless of whether or not ground troops are stationed there.
"We have forces in Iraq, Kurdistan in northern Iraq, we have forces in Jordan, we have our special ops forces scattered throughout the Middle East area, and with the joint strike force capability, again, we can reinforce, support the Kurds 24 hours a day anywhere inside of Syria," he said.
