The Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump has already been predetermined – just like the storming of the Capitol that Democrats have tried to pin on Trump's "stop the steal" speech – according to Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., on Newsmax TV.
"Inside of the Senate you have almost 100% of senators know where they're going to be going with this," Zeldin told Tuesday's "Spicer & Co." "Over the course of the next few days, right to the very end of the trial, there are many who have publicly weighed in – very publicly weighed in – on exactly where they are on whether or not the president should be convicted."
Zeldin ripped Democrats' vendetta against the president they despised before he even took office as being rooted in "hypocrisy and double standards."
"In telling their argument, they aren't going to give the full story," he added to host Sean Spicer, referring to deceptively edited video by House impeachment managers that left out the instruction to protest "peacefully and patriotically."
"They're basing this primarily on the argument that the president gave a speech that day that incited a riot, and in so many ways that's actually been disproven by now," he added.
Zeldin and Spicer noted the FBI warned a day ahead of time a demonstration at the Capitol was going to take place, pipe bombs were placed and found, and the Capitol perimeter was breached while Trump was still speaking.
"They drafted a flawed article, they made flawed arguments on the floor of the House, and they based it on this one argument that's essentially been disproven, as you're pointing out, with some of the warnings that were given out beforehand," Zeldin told Spicer.
"This was a preplanned attack."
Ultimately, this is not about removing a former president, because he is already out of office, and Democrats merely want to subvert the 2024 election, if Trump chose to run, Zeldin said.
"You're essentially trying to settle a partisan political score – you can't even make it to election day," Zeldin concluded. "I think it's not even going to pass that smell test among the American public, who has always believed – and still believes this day – that impeachment is to remove someone from office who's there now and shouldn't be."
