Democrats might be OK with DACA recipients losing their work permits when the program expires in March because of political reasons, immigration expert Mark Krikorian said.
Krikorian, the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, addressed the DACA saga on "The Howie Carr Show" on Newsmax TV on Monday.
"Whether the president is willing to actually let DACA work permits start expiring, which will happen in March . . . he kind of undermined his own position," Krikorian said. "Remember where he tweeted out 'well, if Congress doesn't pass something, I might revisit the issue.' I don't even know what that means, nobody knows what that means, but it suggests maybe he wouldn't let them expire.
"The other thing is, do you really assume that the Democrats don't want those to expire? I think they see real political benefit in having two or three or 400 people lose their work permits every day as it expires starting in March."

President Donald Trump said Sunday he would like any deal to keep DACA recipients in the United States after the program ends include funding for a border wall and thousands more immigrations officers. Those demands are unlikely to be met by Democrats, who said last month Trump pledged not to include border wall funding in a DACA deal.
Krikorian said Democrats have to bend a little in their demands in order to accomplish legislation.
"The problem is I don't know that [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer is even willing to negotiate," Krikorian said. "The Democrats have made pretty clear that their position is that the only thing they'll accept is an amnesty for the DACA, no strings attached, maybe a little phony, baloney border stuff like drones for the Border Patrol which is nonsense, it's meaningless. But they're not willing to offer any real concessions."
