If Robert Mueller was unable to find evidence of a crime involving President Donald Trump, nobody can, former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo told Newsmax TV.
Caputo appeared on a Newsmax special report a short time after Mueller, a former FBI director, discussed his two-year Russia investigation during a press briefing Wednesday morning.
"No matter what you think of Robert Mueller and his team — I had some negative thoughts about them and I continue to question their capacities as they pursue Roger Stone — this is probably the greatest array of investigatory talent our country has put together in a long, long time," Caputo said.
"If they can't find the conspiracy to collude with the Russians or proof of obstruction, then nobody's going to."
Caputo himself got caught up in the Russia probe because he worked with the Trump campaign. He was cleared of any wrongdoing after speaking with Mueller's team.
Caputo said one thing is clear: Mueller is happy his Russia probe has ended.
"I think he's glad to be rid of this challenge and would really like to move on with his life as well," Caputo said.
He added if Democrats continue to pursue impeachment against Trump, they will be committing political suicide.
"They'll pay dearly at the polls," he said.
