Rep. Cloud to Newsmax: Hunter Proves He Deserves Contempt Charge

By    |   Thursday, 11 January 2024 03:28 PM EST

By appearing at a hearing to decide whether to hold him in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena, Hunter Biden showed a sense of entitlement and gave House Republicans more evidence of his disdain for them, Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Thursday.

Biden and his attorneys made a surprise visit to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability's hearing Wednesday, causing a bit of a stir before leaving after about 10 minutes. The committee subpoenaed Biden to be deposed behind closed doors Dec. 13 about his foreign business dealings in relation to the impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden. But he defied the subpoena.

The Oversight and Judiciary committees later Wednesday approved the contempt resolution and forwarded it to the House floor for a vote.

"Having a hearing on whether or not to hold him in contempt, and he came in and decided to provide us even more evidence [and] even another exhibit for the fact that he does hold Congress in contempt," Cloud, a member of the Oversight Committee, told "American Agenda."

"I've never seen a witness come to a hearing and think that they're going to change the agenda of the day and that they should be the spotlight of the day. I've never seen that happen.

"But of course, with Hunter Biden, he seems to have been raised with a little feeling of entitlement, and so he comes into a hearing and thinks it's his day, he can set the agenda. That's not going to happen and we're going to continue to investigate. We're going to continue to pursue this because there's a lot of evidence of criminality here."

Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings are central to the impeachment inquiry into an alleged influence peddling scheme involving the president and members of his family. In a post Wednesday night on X, formerly Twitter, Cloud wrote: "House Democrats continue to cover for Hunter Biden."

"The Dems yesterday were doing everything they could to throw up a smokescreen to make it seem like this is the same thing as when they went after Trump," Cloud told Newsmax. "It's certainly not at all. In Trump's case, they started with a dossier that they paid the manufacturer that was completely false evidence.

"Here, we started with a hard drive that Hunter Biden himself produced. You go beyond that to the bank records, to the bank transfers, to all the shell companies that have been set up. ...  It's just the audacity to come and try to make these claims and compare them as apples to oranges was just crazy.

"You would think that they would think that the volume of their voice was somehow related to the truth of their argument. That was not the case. Sad to say that yesterday in many ways did look like a circus, but I'm glad we got the contempt resolution out because he certainly deserved it."
