Kayleigh McEnany to Newsmax TV: Cohen Is a 'Scoundrel'

(Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now")

Michael Cohen is someone who cannot be trusted to tell the truth, national GOP spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany told Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," McEnany tried to throw cold water on claims made by Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer, that could implicate Trump in some kind of legal trouble stemming from hush payments.

"Michael Cohen is a shady character, he's a scoundrel, he's someone who has lied, he's someone who's recorded his client, he's someone who sold information to companies about the president, about the White House, and peddled in access," McEnany said, referencing an audiotape Cohen made of a conversation he had with Trump and lobbying work he did after Trump was elected.

"This is someone who's not believable."

Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance crimes Tuesday and said Trump played a role in those alleged crimes. That same day, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty of bank and tax fraud.

Regarding the November midterms, McEnany thinks the scandals in Trump's orbit could end up helping the Republican Party because voters will see Democrats have "lied to" them over promises of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia — of which no evidence has yet to be made public.
