Civil Rights Leader Myers: Ferguson TV Coverage Biased

Tuesday, 19 August 2014 06:16 PM EDT

TV coverage of the race riots in Ferguson, Missouri, has been slanted and inflammatory, says Michael Myers, president and executive director of the New York Civil Rights Coalition.

"Whatever happened to the standards of objectivity? Where are the TV executives? . . .  They're now empty suits, they have no standard," Myers said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

He called out CNN, MSNBC and Fox News as being among the chief offenders covering the aftermath of the shooting of a black teenager by a white police officer.

"[CNN's] Don Lemon. He has opinions everywhere, he comes on air, he's supposed to be an objective reporter," Myers said.

"They have Al Sharpton on MSNBC, he's not objective – he goes out there, he agitates, he aggravates, and then comes on air and he agitates again.

"I love Fox News Channel, but Fox News Channel has a bias, too. Their bias is they want to change the subject, they don't want to talk about what's going on in Ferguson . . . they want to talk about black-on-black crime."
