President Ronald Reagan would have had a dramatically different response to the horrific violence by white supremacists in Charlottesville than President Donald Trump did, his son Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.
"Absolutely it would've differed from President Trump's response," Reagan, a veteran political commentator, told host Miranda Khan on "America Talks Live." ". . . My father would be appalled by the white nationalists.
"He would've said the same thing today he would've said back then. He would not have fixed blame all over the building. That would've been for another day, another time. He would've said exactly what needed to be said against the white nationalists, against the KKK.
"And he would've been absolutely appalled that a David Duke would stand up and pretend to speak on his behalf. He would absolutely say basically as Christ said to the Devil, 'get behind me Satan.' And that's exactly what Donald Trump should've done."

Trump sparked outrage when he first said "many sides" were to blame for the violence in which counter-protester Heather Heyer, 32, was killed. He later flip-flopped and called out the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis, and white supremacist groups. Then, he flip-flopped again, going back to his "many sides" view Tuesday.
Trump also said some of the alt-right protesters are "very nice people" and both sides of the protests had some "very fine" people.
His incendiary comments drew positive response from former KKK leader David Duke and alt-right organizer Richard Spencer.
Reagan is the author of "Lessons My Father Taught Me: The Strength, Integrity, and Faith of Ronald Reagan," published by Humanix.
