Michael Savage to Newsmax: Hegseth the 'Warrior' DoD Needs

President Donald Trump brought in Pete Hegseth to head the Department of Defense because he's a combat-tested warrior, not because of his management skills, according to Michael Savage, whose weekly show "Savage Nation" premieres at 8 p.m. Eastern time Sunday on Newsmax. 

"Of course, he's not a great manager," Savage said on Newsmax's "Sunday Agenda." "That's exactly why Trump hired him. If you put a great manager in who ran a corporation instead of a warrior, you're going to have the same old corruption inside the Defense Department that we've had since the day of Eisenhower."

That would have meant "self-serving dealmaking [and] not thinking about the troops on the ground," said Savage.

Hegseth, he added, will "shake things up."

"They're not going to know what to do," said Savage. "Sure, he didn't do accounting right. He didn't do management right. He didn't do any of that. A little corporation here, a little nonprofit there. That's how they try to nail him. This is going to be very interesting to watch because now we're going to have a guy who's actually seen bullets fly by him, and bullets hit his friends and kill them and injure them, be in charge of the Defense Department."

Meanwhile, he lauded Trump for having a "real town hall meeting" in California Friday, including when the discussion got heated with Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., when he was talking about plans to cut FEMA. 

"Here [Sherman] is, sitting there with the most powerful man on earth who comes there to give the state billions of dollars to rebuild the fire zone and the idiot says, well, we disagree on abortion," said Savage. "In other words, he's virtue signaling to all the morons who put him in office and have caused the fires and destroyed the state, and he doesn't even know that he's in his own way. This is how disconnected this Brad Sherman is."

Savage added that he's lived in California since 1974 but has "no representation" because the state was "stolen by Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat machine."

"It's a one-party system like Bulgaria was in the 1950s," he said. "It's a nightmare here and it has to change. We need a real two-party system. … With the voting system that we have, I doubt that we're going to get the democracy we deserve."
