Donald Trump should tap Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate because the Indiana governor is far superior to anybody else on the billionaire real-estate tycoon's short list, former White House Chief of Staff John Sununu tells
Newsmax TV.
"Of all the potential candidates I think Gov. Pence is absolutely the best choice of all the ones that have been [mentioned] in the press," Sununu, who served President George H.W. Bush and was also governor of New Hampshire, said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."
"I'm very partial to governors in knowing how to run the executive branch, I think if it is true that Gov. Pence would be the vice presidential nominee, I think that's a tremendous boost for the Trump ticket."
Pence's long record of public service — he was a congressman for twelve years and served as chairman of the House Republican Conference — makes him more qualified over others.
"You can't have two inexperienced candidates on the ticket," Sununu said, referring to Trump's lack of political experience.
He added that Pence's background gives him more gravitas than even Michael Flynn, whose name is also said to be high on Trump's radar.
Flynn is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general who was the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and commanded the Joint Functional Component Command for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.
But Sununu said, "Gen. Flynn might be a good guy and might find a place and perhaps he wants to run for the Senate or something.
"My message, if anybody really wants any advice on this is you cannot have two people that have never been through the political process on the ticket."
