President Donald Trump is "always willing to hear from others who have different viewpoints than him," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"I've been working with the president for a couple of years now," Pompeo told Newsmax TV host John Bachman in an exclusive interview at the State Department.

The former four-term Kansas Republican congressman, Pompeo, 55, first joined the Trump administration in 2017 as CIA director and was named secretary of state last year.

"My sense is the president is always willing to hear from others who have different viewpoints than him, whether they're from outside the administration or those of us who are working there," Pompeo said.

"He wants to know our judgment," the secretary told Bachman. "That's the reason he brings senior leaders around him.

"He'll then make his decision — and our mission is to go and execute it in a way that's consistent with his guidance."
