Ex-SEAL Higbie: 'Morale Is Terrible in the Military Right Now'

By    |   Monday, 22 September 2014 05:24 PM EDT

Former U.S. Navy SEAL Carl Higbie is standing by his controversial declaration that 90 percent of America's military troops do not support President Barack Obama.

"I can count on one hand the amount of people that openly said they voted for the president. Most of those people … say they shouldn't have done it," Higbie said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"The morale is terrible in the military right now…. This is an ongoing failure of his. [Obama] has yet to provide any type of leadership that any commander-in-chief should possess."

Higbie — author of "Battle on The Home Front: A Navy SEAL's Mission to Save the American Dream," published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform — said the president's no-ground-troops vow to America's troops is not what they want to hear.

"Obama stood up there and touted the other day in front of all these troops and said, 'Don't worry. I'm not going to get you involved in another ground war,'" he said.

"That's why they joined the military in the first place — to go to a ground war to fight for their country."

Higbie said the responsibility of American soldiers is to uphold the Constitution by fighting "all enemies, foreign and domestic."

"The problem is when the commander-in-chief violates that Constitution, which I believe he has, it falls on a very careful situation for the military," he said.

"Some of the generals are now speaking out saying we shouldn't have taken troops out of Iraq, we do need troops on the ground.

"And despite what all of them say with all of their expertise and hundreds of years of combined experience in the military, [Obama is] saying 'No, I know better than you'…. This leads down to he's putting his pride over the mission."
