Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Newsmax TV on Tuesday "nobody should be surprised" by the terror attack on a bicycle path that killed eight people and injured more than a dozen others.

"Whether it's al-Qaida, or ISIS, or whatever radical group you talk to, they all talk," Kerik, who oversaw the city's forces during 9/11, told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker.

"They all promote and they all give training advisories on how to commit attacks like this."

"So nobody should be surprised by the attack, nobody should be surprised how it happened," Kerik added. "That's a reality.

"The second reality is these things are going to continue to happen. They talk about it all the time.

"They want the demise of the West, they want the demise of Israel," Kerik said. "If you don't believe in the same God or Allah as they do, they have a right to kill you.

"They believe that," he added. "That's the world we live in.

"The key for us in stopping events like this, attacks like this, is all about intelligence.

"The more intel you have on people that are in this country, that come into this country — who they are, where they came from, what their beliefs are — the better off we're going to be.

"Without that intel," Kerik said, "you're going to have things like this happen."
