The newly elected Republicans for the 117th Congress will not shy away from their opponents, according to Rep.-elect Kat Cammack, R-Fla., on Newsmax TV.
"This is not a shy group," Cammack said of 43 freshmen Republicans to co-host Sean Spicer on "Spicer & Co." "We all have leveraged social media in ways that previous Congresses just simply haven't. So we have exceptionally young, energetic people in the 117th that are coming on. We are going to be fighting fire with fire."
Cammack and Rep.-elect Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., spoke of a Republican group that can counter the Democrats' progressive "Squad," comprised of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.
Cammack has not wasted time to back up her words. After learning her nextdoor neighbor in the Capitol office building would be Tlaib, the newly elected Congresswoman made a request.
"I have already informed the House architects and the Capitol staff that I would like to have one of the Israel flags positioned right outside my door so she has to walk past it every day," Cammack said.
Malliotakis, another House newcomer to Congress, said she got the idea of a Republican "Squad" during House orientation in which she met Reps.-elect Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., and Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., and Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., a Ukrainian immigrant. Gimenez was born in Cuba. Salazar's parents were Cuban exiles.
"We shared stories," Malliotakis said. "We know what socialism is. We know what Communism is. We don't want it here in the United States. This is a group that is just naturally formed to stand up for freedom, for liberty, to make sure we preserve opportunity in this great nation and that we preserve the American Dream for generations. After all, that's why our parents or we ourselves came to this country.”
