Ofir Akunis, Israel's consul general in New York, told Newsmax Tuesday that the United States and Israel are "saving the world today" through their close coordination against Iranian aggression.
Joining "National Report," Akunis pointed to the latest Iranian strikes and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to impacted sites where "civilians were killed, including children," underscoring what he described as the stakes of the current conflict.
"I think that I told you one year ago that when President [Donald] Trump actually returned to the White House, I said that the cooperation between both leaders will be very good, more than very good. And now we can see that," Akunis said.
He called the current alignment between Washington and Jerusalem historic.
"I think it's the closest collaboration between the American administration — the president of the United States — and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government," he said.
Akunis framed the joint effort, dubbed "Operation Epic Fury," as not only a defense of Israel but of the broader West.
"If to be specific: We are saving the world today. We are saving Western civilization," he declared.
"We talked a lot of times about the destruction that the Iranians want," Akunis said.
He warned that Iranian leaders have long made their intentions clear, repeating chants of "Death to America," and "Death to Israel."
In that context, he argued, Israel's actions are part of a larger fight on behalf of democratic nations.
"Well, now we are doing the dirty work for the entire Western civilization," Akunis said.
