Consultant: Pennsylvania Liquor Law Unfair

By    |   Monday, 14 October 2013 06:18 PM EDT

Pennsylvania law, which requires liquor stores to be operated by the state, limits the selection of spirits residents can buy compared to other states, says Jennifer Airey, a partner at Heart+Mind Strategies.

"A few people decide not only what prices are set, but they decide what is purchased, what's offered to the people of Pennsylvania," Airey told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"[That] irks residents because they don't have the kind of selection or diversity that they would have if it was more a free-market system," Airey said Monday.

Airey, whose company is a research-based strategic consultancy, said the only other state with a similar structure is Utah.

"It's not common at all," she said.

Efforts are being made to change the law and allow liquor sales to be privatized.
