Pete Hoekstra: Trump Won't Get '100-Day Honeymoon' With the Left

President-elect Donald Trump is not going to get a 100-day honeymoon period with the left, former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Pete Hoekstra told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"The left has already indicated they're not going to give this president even a 100-day honeymoon," Hoekstra, the former Michigan congressman, told "Newsmax Prime" host Miranda Khan. "They've gone after each one of his picks.

"They've gone after Steve Bannon. They've gone after Michael Flynn. They've gone after Jeff Sessions.

"The only guy they've really left alone so far is [Mike] Pompeo," Hoekstra added, referring to the Kansas congressman whom Trump said he would nominate as CIA director. "But other than that, they've indicated that every decision is going to be a battle."

He added that the left, including the mainstream media, was "going to be on offense — and they're going to try to get the Trump administration on defense.

"I told Trump supporters that we need you now, we need you on Nov. 8 — but we also need you on Nov. 9 and for the next four years.

"You need to continue demonstrating your support for Mr. Trump and the agenda," Hoekstra told Khan.

"Every pressure in Washington is to conform to the system — and when Donald Trump tries to drain the swamp, they will all turn on Donald Trump.

"He's going to need the backbone of the American people each and every day to bring forward the kind of change that he wants," he said.

Hoekstra, who is under consideration for a post in the Trump administration, also praised Monday's column by Newsmax Media CEO Christopher Ruddy putting forth his five top objectives for the president-elect on such issues as jobs, Obamacare and the nation's military.

"He's very much head-on and directly on point," he told Khan. "Doing something to fix Obamacare — and not every part of Obamacare was bad.

"There were a couple of good points," Hoekstra added. "Keep the good points and put it in new legislation.

"The military clearly is a focus.

"Donald Trump has also said he is about inclusion. He wants to go into places like Detroit, into Chicago, into our inner cities and create an environment where kids are safe, where they can get a great education — and after they get a good education, to get a good job.

"Chris is very much in sync with what needs to happen in the country, but I think he's also in sync with what Donald Trump wants to get accomplished."
