House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., remains a liability for Democrats, especially after Tuesday's loss in the Georgia special election, former Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich. told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"She is not a liability to the Republicans: We love her," Hoekstra, who served from 1993 to 2011, told host Bill Tucker on Wednesday's "America Talks Live."

"The longer she stays as the minority leader on the Democratic side, the better."

He noted how Pelosi remains in power despite so many party losses in recent years.

Pelosi, 77, was first elected to the House in 1986.

"Here you have Nancy Pelosi, who has been the Democratic leader for a long time, massive losses in 2012, doesn't win the majority back in '14, '16, now loses – and is on a losing streak after the '16 election," Hoekstra told Tucker.

"The Democrats they seem to have no inclination at all to change their leadership.

"The leadership is the same as when I left the House in 2011," he continued. "That leadership has been intact basically since 2006, with Nancy Pelosi at the stop and [Maryland's] Steny Hoyer as the number two.

"The Democrats don't know what they stand for," Hoekstra said. "They don't know what their party stands for."
