Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts told Newsmax TV on Thursday that his state is “ahead of the curve” when it comes to preparing for the coronavirus outbreak.
Ricketts told “American Agenda, “we've been relatively lightly impacted right now, so we're ahead of the curve” when it comes to social distancing.
He added that President Donald Trump’s order against gatherings of more than ten people, “really gave us a jump-start on slowing down the spread of the virus here. We're also fortunate that we've got world-recognized experts in infectious diseases at the University of Nebraska medical center. You know, we've got one of three bio-containment facilities in the country, the only federally-funded quarantine unit.”
So we have the experts right here in our home state that were able to advise me on putting together a plan weeks ago about how we would address this. So we started putting that plan in place for the triggers on when we would start making things restrictive. And we have been working that plan, and so far we've only got about sixty-eight cases. So far nobody has died from this yet” in Nebraska.
Ricketts said that people in Nebraska know that the situation will get worse, but said “we’ve had the time to start doing things like buying Personal Protective Equipment, getting our testing ramped up, and working with hospitals on how to expand capacity.”
