Dr. Richard Land on 2016 Race: 'Lesser Evil Versus Greater Evil'

By    |   Wednesday, 22 June 2016 09:05 PM EDT

Evangelicals may be wary of Donald Trump, but "this is a classic case of the lesser evil versus the greater evil," Southern Evangelical Seminary President Richard Land told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"If you wash your hands of the situation and just say, 'Well I'm not going to get involved,' then you become morally culpable for helping the greater evil prevail," Land, executive editor of The Christian Post, told "The Hard Line" host Ed Berliner.

"You have a moral obligation to help the lesser evil prevail over the greater evil — and if you really believe that Mrs. [Hillary] Clinton is a greater evil and Donald Trump is the lesser evil, then a lot of evangelicals believe you have a moral obligation to support the lesser evil."

Land told Berliner that he did not attend a meeting the presumptive Republican presidential nominee held with evangelical leaders Tuesday at Trump Tower in New York. He had a previous commitment in Raleigh, N.C.

"Either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton is going to be the next president of the United States — and you have to deal with the hand you're dealt in a fallen world," Land said. "In a fallen world, we have a choice to make.

"Look, war is a terrible thing. Nobody wants to go to war.

"But if we had washed our hands and all become conscientious objectors in World War II, we'd be conducting this interview in German."
