Rep. Williams to Newsmax: Taxpayers' Money Being 'Wasted' by SBA

By    |   Tuesday, 19 March 2024 10:17 AM EDT

Small Business Administration head Isabel Casillas Guzman must go after misspent COVID-19 funds before asking Congress for additional money, the House chair of the Small Business Committee, Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Tuesday.

In an interview on "Wake Up America," Williams declared Guzman will be grilled before the panel on Wednesday about the misuse of funds meant to bolster "Main Street America."

"Taxpayers' money is just being wasted, and we've got to identify, and we've got to collect it," he said. "We've got to get back to ... giving Main Street America an opportunity to start a business and take some risk and get rewarded."

According to Williams, "They've gotten political over at the SBA."

"If you're the head of the SBA it doesn't matter who's in the White House," he asserted. "You need to be for lower taxes, less government cutting spending. You need to be for Main Street. You need to be for less regulations. There's so many regulations going on right now from Main Street ... and SBA wants to put more on them."

Williams said the House panel will also urge Guzman to get back money earmarked for COVID aid that was taken fraudulently.

"There's $200 billion missing in COVID [funds] landing right now to frauds who gave wrong Social Security numbers, wrong ID, and so forth," he said.

"We're gonna talk to her about mismanagement. We're gonna talk to her about why nobody's coming to work in that building they're in that has about 800 offices, and I think it's only 10% full.

"You can't serve a small business if you're not on the job," he continued. "Small business comes to work every day, and they're the last to leave at night. And if the people are relying on the SBA can't come to work, that's a real problem. We want to hear why that's happening."

Williams also weighed in on the border crisis, charging President Joe Biden "is basically inviting people to come in."

"And then we're given the money, we give them assets," he said. "We're giving them help, and we got hundreds of thousands of homeless veterans that need help ... so our priorities are backwards. But it's all by design by the liberals."
