Sen. Ron Johnson to Newsmax: Whistleblower Needed in 2021

By    |   Monday, 17 April 2023 04:31 PM EDT

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told Newsmax on Monday that he wishes that former Obama administration staff member Mike McCormick, who accused President Joe Biden of engaging in a "kickback scheme," had come forward in 2021 when the Senate GOP's investigation began.

"We do not get information from the administration," Johnson said on "John Bachman Now." "Our congressional oversight powers are certainly reduced from what they once might have been. We don't have enforcement powers, so we rely on whistleblowers. It's extremely important."

Asked about the recent Pentagon leaks, Johnson said: "I have come over the last eight years … in my investigations not to trust almost anything that comes out of the government.

"This whole leaking situation just doesn't ring true to me at all. This is just bizarre. What is happening that such a low-level individual would have access to such highly classified information? It's just simply bizarre."

Johnson also addressed the upcoming race for president in 2024, saying that like in previous elections he plans to remain neutral until a Republican nominee is selected by the voters.

"I just don't endorse," he said. "I didn't endorse in Wisconsin's governor race. I let the people decide that, and then I get strongly behind who the people select as our nominee as a Republican. So that will be my approach in 2024 as well."
