Ron Paul: Polls Are Rigged, for Entertainment Only

By    |   Wednesday, 20 January 2016 04:21 PM EST

Americans should not trust the various presidential polls that are emerging day by day — because they're largely rigged and conducted for "entertainment value" only, former Rep. Ron Paul tells Newsmax TV.

"All this talk for this last year-and-a-half and there hasn't even been a vote cast. It's all been done by polling which for the most part is generally rigged," Paul, a Texas Republican, said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"They pick people, they boost them up, it's entertainment and [GOP presidential front-runner Donald] Trump really fitted into that quite well. It's entertainment the major networks control."

Paul, father of Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, said the political landscape has changed dramatically from a year ago, despite the fact that no primaries or caucuses have been held as yet.

"I think six months ago if I had said that maybe Hillary wouldn't be the candidate, everybody would've laughed," he said.

"But now I still think Hillary may well not be the candidate. Who knows what's going to happen."

Asked by Malzberg about the rousing endorsement tea party darling and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gave Trump on Wednesday, Paul — founder of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity — said:

"It was interesting politics. Everybody thought it was pretty neat, but she just doesn't overly impress me. There was a time when I thought she possibly could be president of the United States. I don't think she qualifies for that.

"I don't think Trump needed her to tell you the truth, but it does help him build momentum. It certainly doesn't hurt him and it probably hurts [Sen. Ted] Cruz [of Texas] more than it really helps Trump."

Paul, believes his son, who is near the bottom of recent presidential polls, could still rally, but added, "at this point, it certainly is realistic" Trump could clinch the GOP nomination.

"If I had a limited sum of money that I thought it's a sure bet, I probably would invest a whole lot," he said.
