The Justice Department's attack on former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is comparable to the witch hunts by Sen. Joe McCarthy, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told Newsmax TV.
"The Flynn situation is only one of many when Constitutional rights were trampled, ignored. This is like Joe McCarthy . . . on steroids" Giuliani told Wednesday's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "The right of counsel didn't matter. Attorney-client privilege didn't matter, being fair . . . they basically created the Flynn matter.
"Up into the day they walked into Gen. Flynn's office, there was no crime. They weren't investigating a crime. And they deliberately planned to create one."
Recent evidence has been revealed that shows the FBI might have attempted to entrap Flynn, a retired general in the U.S. Army, as a part of the Russia collusion investigation. FBI documents show agents compelled "him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired."
"If anybody in my office had ever conducted an investigation like that, they wouldn't just have been fired, they would've been referred for both ethical and criminal investigation," Giuliani said.
According to former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the FBI documents clearly display that then-FBI Director James Comey was "personally engaged" in the poorly handled investigation of Flynn.
"Comey is a disgrace, and I hired him to the United States attorney's office," Giuliani said. "I am so disappointed . . . what he did to this country, he's got to pay some kind of price for it.
