Ex-Trump Adviser Nunberg: Must Deport Dreamers to Keep Campaign Pledge

Sam Nunberg, a former adviser to Donald Trump before he won the presidency, tells Newsmax TV his old boss will have to include so-called "Dreamers" in his deportation plans to keep his campaign promise.

"If they just flat-out say we're not going to be deporting any of these Dreamers, then I think that that's really taking back a campaign pledge that he made and that helped him get the nomination," Nunberg told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth on Tuesday.

The Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday announced it would be deporting all illegal immigrants except for "Dreamers" — those who were brought into the United States as children.

Although all of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country face deportation, DHS said those with criminal records or who already have been given deportation orders are the priority.

But Nunberg said all illegal immigrants, including Dreamers, have committed criminal acts simply by entering the country illegally. If Dreamers are allowed to stay, he argued, the next argument will be that the United States cannot break up families by deporting parents while allowing Dreamers to stay.

Turning to Trump's criticism of the press, Nunberg disagreed with criticism that the president is being too general and not mentioning the specific news organizations.

"He seems to be very specific," he said. "He says his main targets are CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times and The Washington Post."

The overall issue, Nunberg said, is a media trying to delegitimize a president like never before.

"It's really an anomaly to me why they haven't just started restricting some of these people from going into the White House briefings," he said. "You have press saying it's our job to destroy him, and you have press who are trying to incite riots."
