Former Trump campaign adviser Sam Nunberg told Newsmax TV that House Democrats are seeking documents from him that pertain to Russia and Roger Stone as they expand their investigation into President Donald Trump.
"What I think ultimately I'm going to have to hand over is documents relating to my communications with Roger Stone," Nunberg said on Monday's "Newsmax Now."
"I don't know anything about Trump Tower in Moscow. He's looking for information I would possibly have about pardons, information I would have about anything to do with taking sanctions off of Russia. I don't know anything about that. I don't have a lot to offer. I'm gonna have to dig these up and get them to him."
Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., chairs the House Judiciary Committee and has reached out to 81 people asking for documents. With Democrats now in control of the House chamber, Nadler is spearheading an effort to dig deep into Trump's background to see if the president broke any laws before or after he won the 2016 election.
Nunberg thinks special counsel Robert Mueller, the former FBI director leading the Department of Justice probe into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians, will find no clear evidence linking Trump and Russia exists.
"What I think we're gonna find from Robert Mueller's report, frankly, is that Mueller is going to say something along the lines of, look, Donald Trump tried to get WikiLeaks emails from Roger Stone because Roger told him that he had them. Now you and I know Roger well, Roger was lying. He doesn't have any access to those emails," Nunberg told host John Bachman.
Trump, Nunberg said, "has to say they have no direct evidence of communicating with Russia, trying to coordinate emails with Russia, telling Russia to hack [the Democratic National Committee computers], or trying to strategize on the timing of the release."
