Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., told Newsmax on Friday that "President [Donald] Trump is going to get his team in place," no matter what "procedural hurdles" the Democrats may try to block the nominees.
On Thursday the Senate voted 51-49 to advance Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth to a final confirmation vote that could come as early as Friday evening. GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine voted against the president and the rest of their party in siding with the Democrats to oppose Hegseth.
Schmitt said Trump purposely picked "disruptors" for his Cabinet.
"This election cycle in many ways was disruptors versus establishment or reformers versus the old guard. And Pete Hegseth is one of those guys I intend to vote yes. I think there are the votes to get him confirmed. And we're going to plow through these confirmations through the weekend," Schmitt said during an appearance on "Finnerty."
"The Democrats are, you know, trying to put some procedural hurdles in our way. That's their prerogative. We can do it the easy way, or we can do it the hard way. But either way, President Trump's going to get his team in place, and we're going to move as quickly as we possibly can," Schmitt added.
