New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio needs to follow the footsteps of his predecessors and admit that he's made some mistakes, says Thomas Ruskin, former detective for the New York Police Department.
"He has to start reaching out to the cops, going to police precincts, and talking to them and basically saying, 'I'm sorry, I made a mistake, I didn't realize. I'm a new mayor, I'm trying to feel my way through this whole thing, and I'm sorry that you had to experience what you've had to experience and lose two of your brother police officers who were executed,' " Ruskin told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on
Newsmax TV Tuesday.

Former New York City Mayor
Rudy Giuliani said in an interview Sunday that de Blasio needs to apologize to the NYPD and begin to repair the relationship with the police.
"Mayor Giuliani is absolutely correct — the mayor has made some missteps," he explained.
"It's the right thing to do as a mayor and as a leader to say listen, 'I made mistakes,' " he said.
"Take sort of some of the playbook from [former New York City Mayor] Ed Koch where he made mistakes, but he stood up in front of media and said, 'I made mistakes,' " he contends.
"Then behind closed doors you go a little bit more into the guts of the problems between you and the police department," Ruskin added.
Ruskin said that de Blasio might be able to make things better with the police, but that he will never be able to fully "repair it."
According to the former NYPD detective, de Blasio's actions in "his first year . . . has basically made himself probably one of the worst mayors New York City has seen in many, many years, if ever."
