Huelskamp: Expect WH to Stonewall House Panel on Benghazi

Tuesday, 06 May 2014 06:55 PM EDT

Congress can expect the White House to stonewall the House select committee on Benghazi, U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp says.

"The administration is very clear about this, they're going to hide everything they can. They're going to push back. They're going to try to deceive," Huelskamp, a Kansas  Republican, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"They've done that, they do that . . . and we have to be ready and willing to push back to get the truth," he said Tuesday.

Last week, House Speaker John Boehner announced the formation of a select committee after the release of an email showing that the White House had coached then-U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice to blame the Benghazi attack on an anti-Islamic video.

That explanation has since been discredited, and critics think the White House staged a cover-up for political reasons.

Story continues below video.

Meanwhile, a House overlook committee looking into Benghazi subpoenaed Secretary of State John Kerry, who has said he would not cooperate. But Huelskamp urged Kerry not to duck a subpoena should the more powerful House select committee issue one.

"If John Kerry wants to refuse the subpoena, refuse to show up and testify, I think the American people will say he's guilty and he must be hiding something," Huelskamp said.
