President Donald Trump's leadership is "refreshing," Rep. Vince Fong, R-Calif., said Wednesday to Newsmax.
"The fact that within five days of being sworn in, President Trump traveled to California, showing his hands-on engagement, especially when it comes to wildfire prevention and water, is a testament to the leadership that we need," Fong told "National Report."
"Certainly, we've been dealing with wildfires and water challenges for a very long time, but the fact that he signed two executive orders to maximize water flows, to streamline the process, to build needed water infrastructure, to coordinate the state and federal water systems, to move more water to Southern California and the Central Valley so that cities and counties and homes and businesses, the water that we use for everyday lives is maximized. That's very refreshing."
Trump on Tuesday directed U.S. government agencies to override California's water policies as needed.
"Firefighters were unable to fight the blaze due to dry hydrants, empty reservoirs, and inadequate water infrastructure," the order stated. "It is in the nation's interest to ensure that California has what it needs to prevent and fight these fires and others in the future."
Writing that "it is the policy of the United States to provide Southern California with necessary water resources," Trump's order directed federal officials to "immediately take actions to override existing activities that unduly burden efforts to maximize water deliveries."
