Rep. Van Duyne to Newsmax: Everything Trump Does Will Be Challenged

By    |   Tuesday, 21 January 2025 11:55 AM EST

On his first day in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump signed dozens of executive orders, but one that has been immediately challenged is his efforts to end birthright citizenship. Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, told Newsmax on Tuesday that "everything this president does is going to be challenged."

On Monday, immigration rights advocates sued the Trump administration over its order that seeks to strip certain babies born in the United States of their U.S. citizenship.

"National Report" host Emma Rechenberg asked Van Duyne if Trump's plan to end birthright citizenship will be challenged in the courts. "I'm sure pretty much everything that this president does is going to be challenged by somebody in the courts," Van Duyne replied.

"But the fact is, when we've had over 20 million people enter our country illegally in the last four years, we have been trying to figure out how to use the courts to actually protect our citizens. So yeah, I'm optimistic [that Trump will prevail]," Van Duyne said.

The representative from Texas' 24th congressional district added that Trump is putting together a strong team to help him fight in the courts and implement his agenda. "And, you know, you've got [Rep.] Elise Stefanik [, R-N.Y.,] right now who's about to speak for her nomination hearing. You have very strong members former members, current members, people from the previous Trump administration — you've got really strong people now that are being nominated for Cabinet positions to be able to partner with this president," Van Duyne added.
