Former President Donald Trump has not endorsed any GOP candidates in Missouri's close race for the U.S. Senate, but Rep. Vicky Hartzler, a front-runner in the race, said Monday on Newsmax that she has not only enjoyed working with him but that she voted with him "more than 95% of the time," or more than any other Senate candidate in the country.
"I would certainly welcome his support," the Missouri Republican said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America," commenting the day before her state's primary.
"I went to the border, and I came back and passed legislation to give our Border Patrol more authority to take out the drones that are bringing drugs across this country," Hartzler said. "I worked alongside President Trump to get our economy going by voting for and supporting the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and I worked with him to rebuild the military as a senior member of the Armed Services Committee.
"I've gone out against the woke crowd like he has and my Twitter account was suspended early in the campaign because I simply spoke up for girls' sports."
The congresswoman pointed out that she does have the endorsement of Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and said the "excitement is palpable" in Missouri as the election approaches.
"People are ready to take back this country and they're ready to support the true conservative in this race who has a track record of getting things done, and who is one of them who has been fighting for them," said Hartzler. "I'm very excited looking forward to tomorrow and believe it's going to be a great day."
She is running against several candidates, including state Attorney General Eric Schmitt and former Gov. Eric Greitens, with the polls separating the candidates by just a few percentage points, and told Newsmax that Hawley's endorsement "means a lot."
"He is so well-respected here," said Hartzler. "People love him. They appreciate his strong stance for our conservative values, his courage, and his leadership. The fact that he's endorsed me and said that 'Vicky has the heart, the integrity, and the toughness that Missouri needs, and I can't wait to work alongside her' has gone a long way."
She added that she's looking forward to winning the election this fall and "working with him and turning this country around," as "Biden's administration, the Democrats are ruining our country. That's why I am running, so that we can stop this train wreck, turn things around, and help the good people of this state."
Meanwhile, out-of-state Democrats have been pouring money into Greitens' campaign out of the belief that he'd lose in a general election campaign, and Hartzler said "they are correct" and "politically shrewd."
"He used to be a Democrat," she said. "He's the true RINO [Republican in name only] in this race, and polls have shown that he would lose in the general.
"We could be just like Georgia, which would be devastating … we have to keep this state in strong Republican hands so that we can pick up a seat elsewhere. We can stop this train wreck and fire [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer."
