RNC Chair to Newsmax: GOP Must Focus on Voters

By    |   Saturday, 25 January 2025 02:14 PM EST

During a Saturday appearance on Newsmax, Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley emphasized the importance of understanding voter concerns and delivering tangible solutions to maintain GOP dominance.

Whatley underscored the party's focus on solidifying support among voters and maintaining its majority status in upcoming election cycles, citing a need to address fundamental concerns like the economy, community safety, and national security.

Speaking on Newsmax's "Saturday Agenda," Whatley detailed the RNC's strategy to build on the coalition of Trump voters who contributed to Republican gains.

"One of the biggest things that we're going to be focusing on at the RNC as we move forward into the '26 midterm cycle is how do we take these Trump voters and make them Republican voters?" Whatley said. "And the way that we're going to do that is by focusing on the fundamentals. It's all about the economy. It's all about communities and families."

Whatley highlighted the winning formula championed by Trump, emphasizing key priorities: restoring the southern border, rebuilding the economy, ensuring community safety, and protecting America's global interests.

"Those are the fundamentals that the American people support. And as long as Republicans listen to the voters, understand their issues, put solutions on the table, we're going to continue to be the majority party," he said.

Addressing the electoral landscape, Whatley identified critical battleground states and the need for infrastructure to sustain Republican successes. He pointed to states like Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan as pivotal for future elections.

"Donald Trump carried all seven of those states," Whatley noted. "We actually won Senate races in several of those states, but not every one, right? We have congressional districts in places like New York and California that are going to be terribly important to making sure that we keep the gavel in the House."

Whatley also discussed the RNC's efforts to expand its influence in states like Minnesota, Virginia, and New Hampshire, areas that have been key battlegrounds in recent presidential elections. He expressed optimism about building enduring Republican majorities, citing Ohio and Florida as examples of former battlegrounds now considered reliably Republican.

"We want to take Ohio and make it Pennsylvania. We want to take, you know, what happened in North Carolina and Georgia this year and make sure that we continue to move those states to the right as well," Whatley said.

Whatley celebrated the GOP's recent victory in Nevada and emphasized the importance of strengthening Republican infrastructure to ensure continued success. He urged candidates to follow Trump's example by addressing voters' concerns directly and building platforms rooted in their priorities.

"It's really going to matter on our campaigns and the candidates following the road that Donald Trump just laid down and really, truly paying attention to the voter's concerns," he concluded.
